Michael Rosen Books and Book Reviews | LoveReading

People do say some odd things. Michael Rosen listens out for those things and turns them into small dramas. This poem and others like it might sound like more storytelling than poetry. There are also tales about his own children. In some poems, he even adds vocal sound effects! Michael is perhaps best known for his free verse.

Michael Wayne Rosen born 7 May [1] is an English children's novelist, poet, and the author of books. He served as Children's Laureate from June to June Booth , who was billeted with his father at the US army university in Shrivenham , Oxfordshire, and became a literary critic, writing a "seminal" book about the modern novel, The Rhetoric of Fiction. His father Harold — was born in Brockton, Massachusetts , but grew up in the East End of London from the age of two, when his mother left Harold's father and returned to Britain. She attended Central Foundation Girls' School , then in Spital Square , where she made friends such as Bertha Sokoloff , who went on to lead a significant rent strike. Connie worked as a secretary at the Daily Worker , and later as a primary school teacher and then a training college lecturer.

Michael Rosen wrote his first poems when he was twelve, and he has been writing ever since. He loves words, and especially loves talking to children and adults about how we can play with them. He may have got that from his father, who loved to sing songs in different languages and recite bits of poetry or plays — especially Shakespeare. Since then, he has published many more poetry collections, picture books and anthologies, and has become one of our best-known and best-loved authors. One of our most popular writers - the champion for every bored, overdrilled, tested-to-tears pupil in the land.
