Created by the award winning American writer Joe R. Lansdale, this series has been running for some time now to much critical and commercial acclaim. With his strong idiosyncratic voice, Lansdale has become a powerful presence within his field producing genre fiction that has helped progress not only his own work, but has also inspired others in the process. Having created a number of series in the past as well, this is a popular line of books that exemplify the greatest strengths of Lansdale as a writer and what audiences have come to love. Set within LaBorde, a fictional town said to be located in East Texas, they have found themselves to be the constant source of misadventures over the course of the novels. Re-released later in on the 6th of January, it sought to bring light to some fairly contentious themes within its story, as Hap and Leonard deal with their latest problem. Further establishing the characters and their current station in life, it builds upon the events of the previous novel, expanding upon certain traits and exploring more of their pasts.

Hap is a labourer who spent time in prison for draft dodging during Vietnam, while Leonard is a gay black man who served in Vietnam and has anger management issues — which Hap frequently has to calm him down from. Joe R. Lansdale began his Hap and Leonard series in with the novel Savage Season.
Hap and Leonard: origin stories
Hap and Leonard are two fictional amateur investigators and adventurers portrayed by American author Joe R. They are two very different men and the best of friends, and now work together as private investigators for Hap's girlfriend Brett Sawyer. Together they always wind up in a lot of trouble with various criminal types in the fictional town of LaBorde, in East Texas and often find themselves attempting to solve various unpleasant and brutal crimes. Both men are well versed in the martial arts. Hap Collins is a white working class laborer who spent time in federal prison as a young man for refusing to be drafted into the military and serve in the Vietnam War. In his late fifties, he is often haunted by the various unpleasant jobs he's held over the years such as working at an aluminum chair factory and working the East Texas rose fields.
