Godel escher and bach pdf
Gödel, Escher, Bach - WikipediaI'd owned this book for many years and had a similar experience to OP. After getting in a little bit Hofstadter makes some apologies for GEB saying it was the sum of work of a very young person. I think he was 24? I think it's pretty incredible considering his age. The things that lead him to thinking critically about consciousness because of his disabled sister I found to be something that changed not only how I interacted with people that were differently abled, but also changed how I saw my own disabilities. Sure it's more than a bit full of itself, but I can't for the life of me think how I would edit it any differently. It's honest from the place he was standing.

Gödel, Escher, Bach: Una Eterna Trenza Dorada
Escher , and composer Johann Sebastian Bach , the book expounds concepts fundamental to mathematics , symmetry , and intelligence. Through illustration and analysis, the book discusses how, through self-reference and formal rules, systems can acquire meaning despite being made of "meaningless" elements. It also discusses what it means to communicate, how knowledge can be represented and stored, the methods and limitations of symbolic representation, and even the fundamental notion of "meaning" itself. One point in the book presents an analogy about how individual neurons in the brain coordinate to create a unified sense of a coherent mind by comparing it to the social organization displayed in a colony of ants. The tagline "a metaphorical fugue on minds and machines in the spirit of Lewis Carroll " was used by the publisher to describe the book.
It also looks at the prospects for computers and artificial intelligence AI for mimicking human thought. For the general reader and the computer techie alike, this book still sets a standard for thinking about the future of computers and their relation to the way we think. Borrowing a page from Lewis Carroll who might well have been a fan of this book , each chapter presents a dialogue between the Tortoise and Achilles, as well as other characters who dramatize concepts discussed later in more detail. Allusions to Bach's music centering on his Musical Offering and Escher's continually paradoxical artwork are plentiful here. October 27, September 30,
