Robert J. Marzano is an educational researcher in the United States. He has done educational research and theory on the topics of standards-based assessment , cognition, high-yield teaching strategies, and school leadership, including the development of practical programs and tools for teachers and administrators in K schools. Marzano was named executive director. Marzano has identified three areas central to school improvement reforms: fostering and sustaining system-wide teaching strategies; providing effective feedback to students; and building a strong student academic vocabulary.

Indeed, one might even consider it a manifesto. The book identifies over specific strategies that converge the artistry of teaching with scientific research spanning decades. As a long time Marzano devotee, I was pleasantly surprised that the book retained the magic of the original while also approaching learning from a new perspective. This shift reflects the changing attitudes in education and the influence of growth mindset. Marzano does not mince words, and just as a manifesto implies, he lays out exactly what needs to be done in order to craft a paradigm that works for education. In this chapter, his recommendations will cause many teachers to want to stand up and cheer. This leads me to an important recommendation regarding this book: get it into the hands of administrators and policy makers.

Robert J. Marzano's five decades of education research come to life in this book and video workshop. Rather than quick-fix solutions, Marzano provides the foundation teams need to usher in a new era of competency-based learning focused on student learning outcomes. Included is the best-selling The New Art and Science of Teaching and a facilitator's guide for implementing the video workshop, which features 18 new research-based instructional strategies shown to have the greatest impact on student success in classrooms. This competency-based education video workshop provides K educators with the following tools to improve student learning outcomes: A facilitator's guide, in print and on CD, to better interact with and understand the content Eighteen innovative strategies, and guidance for implementing effective teaching methods in classrooms High-quality footage demonstrating the research-based instructional strategies in real classroom settings Guidance for implementing the three overarching categories of teaching New techniques for student engagement in meaningful learning experiences.
