Royal and select masters ritual pdf
The Ceremonies of the Order of Royal and Select MastersThey organized themselves into a sovereign body under the patronage of the Rev Canon G. This Grand Council had its vicissitudes but continues to prosper and today has many Councils overseas which are controlled by District Grand Councils. It is somewhat surprising to note that to many, these ceremonies constitute nothing more than interesting side degrees or a random collection of unrelated incidents in the story of King Solomon's Temple, but to the serious and understanding masonic student, they prove to be the essential link between the degrees of Master Mason and Royal Arch Mason. This degree is supposedly held in the secret vault which has been constructed beneath the Temple, consisting of several arches, into one of which the secrets were deposited and later discovered. It relates how a well-known mason employed by KS accidentally intrudes into the crypt where the three GMs were wont to meet and confer, and illustrates the consequence of this intrusion.
Cryptic Masonry is the second part of the York Rite system of Masonic degrees, and the last found within the Rite that deals specifically with the Hiramic Legend. These degrees are the gateway to Temple restoration rituals or the Second Temple Legend. A Council is similar in many ways to a Masonic Lodge ; it has officers and a ritual degree system, which in this case consists of three degrees: Royal Master, Select Master, and Super Excellent Master. The Super Excellent master's degree is optional in some jurisdictions. The various positions in the lodge are modeled directly after Craft Masonry and though the names are often different the duties are largely the same. Their seating is a bit different, however, in that all three principals of a council sit on the east dais , while the captain of the guard and conductor of the council sit in the west and south. Councils in some jurisdictions have more than one steward ,.
It can be seen, therefore, that the Cryptic Degrees form a vital and interesting link between the Craft and Royal Arch, making the connection much more logical and completing the legend of King Solomon and his Temple. The Four Degrees are as follows: Select Master The preparations for the building of the Temple having commenced in the Mark Degree, the three Grand Masters are anxious that the form of the sacred treasures, including the Ark of the Covenant, could be lost forever in the event of the Temple being sacked. They therefore arrange for a small number of Select Masons, sworn to secrecy, to construct a secret vault beneath the Holy of Holies and deposit replicas therein. Royal Master The Temple is nearing its completion and certain Overseers are anxious to receive the Master Word and be honoured with the rank of Royal Master before their employment ceases. Shortly before his death Hiram Abif explains to one of these Overseers, Adoniram, that with patience and industry he will, in due time, receive it. This discourse is widely regarded as the most beautiful in any Masonic Degree. Most Excellent Master Hiram Abif has been slain and after a period of mourning, the holy relics are transferred into the completed temple.
York Rite - Further Light in Masonry
There are many organisations and Orders which form part of the widespread fraternity of Freemasonry , each having its own structure and terminology. Collectively these may be referred to as Masonic bodies , Masonic orders or appendant bodies or orders of Freemasonry. The basic unit of Freemasonry is the Masonic Lodge , which alone can "make" initiate a Freemason. Such lodges are controlled by a Grand Lodge with national or regional authority for all lodges within its territory. Whilst there is no degree in Freemasonry higher than that of Master Mason, there are additional degrees that are offered only to those who are Master Masons. Most of these are supervised by their own "Grand" bodies independent from the Grand Lodge. The United Grand Lodge of England which has no direct authority over other Grand Lodges, but as the world's oldest Grand Lodge, has a historical influence in terms of regularity and practice defines "pure, ancient Freemasonry" as consisting of the three degrees of Entered Apprentice, Fellowcraft, and Master Mason, including the supreme Order of the Holy Royal Arch.
